Eagle Creek and Portland, Oregon: San Francisco,: Glen Coffield , 1948. 1948-1958. Archive consists of 10 issues of "The Bridge ( le petit journal"), 3:7, 3:8, 3:9 (1949); 4:1, 4:5, 4:9, 4:11, 4:12 (1950); 7:7 (1953); and 10:9 (1956); 2 issues of The Creative Advertiser", 1:4 (1955-56) and 2:2 (1956); an advertisement for "Tea Leaves and Transit Lines", Coffield"s rare 15th published volume of poetry, n.d. (1956); 1 ALS with mailing envelope, dated March 1, 1958, from Coffield to Lloyd Danziessen, a fellow CO from CPS Camp No. 56, Waldport Oregon; 3 typed and one autograph postcards SIGNED from Coffield to Danziessen; and 6 SIGNED endorsed cancelled checks from Danziessen to Coffield for The Grundtvig Folk School in a separate envelope signed by Coffield. During WWII Lloyd Danziessen met Coffield at Camp Angel, as Camp 56 was known, and where Danziessen held the position of circulation manager for the camp newsletter called "The Compass". After WWII Coffield founded the Grundtvig Folk School near Eagle Creek, OR, where he published numerous mimeographed journals and books of poetry, including "The Bridge" and "The Creative Advertiser", whose contributors included William Stafford, Howard Griffin, Cid Corman, and Jacob Sloan. The ALS dated Mar.1, 1958 is of particular importance, as it shows Coffield moved to San Francisco as early as February of 1958 ("I finally gave up in Oregon and I am now settled in the Bay Area".) and because Coffield talks about Gertrude Chiarito, Adrian Wilson, Marty Ponch, Kermit Sheets, William Everson, and James Broughton. A remarkable collection given that so much of Coffield's works and papers are institutionally held. . SIGNED BY AUTHOR. Stapled Wrappers. Near Fine. Association Copy.

Hiding their identity behind their traditional masks, natives of the rebel Monimbo neighborhood in Masaya, prepare contact bombs to combat the army of the Dictatorship, during the War of Liberation." Appears at first glance to be a tourism poster, but is seemingly an ironic parody of such. One of a series wryly praising colonial architecture and other similarly inappropriate national artifacts. Lady Jersey was President of the Women's National Anti-Suffrage League. The letter begins "As regards the Anti-Suff in which Gertrude took such inspiring care, I fear nothing beyond memory remains." After detailing some recollections, Lady Jersey writes: "The last thing I clearly remember about Gertrude in this connection is that she and I as…

1799 Romance of the Rose Lorris Medieval de Meun Flamel Alchemy STUNNING 5v"The more a man gazes on what he loves, the more he sets fire to his heart and bastes it with bacon fat."
― Guillaume de Lorris, The Romance of the Rose
The 'Roman de la Rose' is a famous 13th-century Medieval French poem written as an allegorical dream sequence. It was written by Guillaume de Lorris who sought to express the feelings of romantic love, sexuality, and chivalry. It was completed by Jean de Meung who continued the work begun by Lorris. Thought to be the most widely read book other than the Bible in the 13th- and 14th-centuries, it was highly influential on other authors, notably including Geoffrey Chaucer.
This absolutely stunning
18th-century edition was published in Paris printed in five beautiful vellum-bound volumes. This particular edition is of note, not just for containing the 'Roman de la Rose', but also a preface by Clement Marot, Meung's 'Life of Jean Clopinel', a short treatise on the alchemy of… Read More

Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows
) that led to me writing the poem "Quartering." Which was informed by them, of course, and by all the rooms I'm in, and by imagining what is really required of all the caregivers I love. It's a thought experiment: if we tore down the barracks at military hospitals and offered incentives for Americans in the surrounding neighborhoods to quarter injured service members, what would the honest instructions…
