About This Item
London: George Routledge and Sons, 1868. Thick Octavo. A new edition with a nice fore-edge painting of the Governor of the Red River, Hudson's Bay, voyaging in a light Canoe. Portrait frontispiece. 403pp., with notes by Rev. W.A. Hill, illustrated with twenty vignette engravings from designs by J.M.W. Turner. Campbell was a Scottish poet, remembered chiefly for his sentimental and martial lyrics; he was also one of the initiators of a plan to found what became the University of London. A fine copy bound in full red pebble grained morocco lavishly trimmed in gilt, raised bands with compartments lettered and fully decorated in gilt, inner gilt denteles, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, some foxing to preface and adjacent two leaves. Very nice.
