Chatto & Windus, London, 1929. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 67pp. Black buckram lettered in gold at the spine. Top edge fractionally dust soiled, with a bump to the tip of one corner and just a fraction of browning to the free endpapers. Very good indeed in handsome patterned dust wrapper, lightly tanned at the spine panel with several tiny fractions of loss to the spine ends and corner tips, a little chafing to the natural folds and some internal repair and reinforcement. The front flap price label has been removed, resulting in a small rectangle of surface abrasion. Handsome former owner armorial bookplate to the front pastedown, almost entirely obscured by the wrapper flap. The author's first book, published a year after he graduated from Cambridge and comprising forty-one poems followed by five pages of notes..

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250.
