Paris: Chez Rey et Gravier, 1820. First French edition (translated from 3 volume 1819 Edinburgh edition), full five thick octavo volumes, early half leather bindings tight with minimal restorations (esp. Vol. 1). Frontispiece of capitol, small folding early city plan of Washington DC, and the scarce map by Tardieu (original hand colored outlines, titled 'Carte des Etats-Unis de L'Amerique Septentrionale', dated 1819 on the plate, image 12.75x18.5 inches in NEAR FINE condition with folds as issued (Texas mentioned but not yet a Republic, and a huge Louisiana territory- a nice early item with the transmississippi west). The reduced plan of Washington DC, based on the earlier and larger Ellicott map, is in volume 5, in very good condition, with minimal verso foxing. Quite scarce, esp. with this condition and these bindings.. First Edition Thus. Half-Leather. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

We accept cash, check, money order, American Express, Visa, Discover and Mastercard. Virginia sales tax will be added to instate purchases. Shipping charges are billed at cost, and will be added to the invoice. We usually include insurance with the postage, and as a result we do not routinely use media mail. If you wish the book sent via the latter route, it would be at your risk. For heavy items, there may be extra shipping charges. Any item maybe returned (postpaid and carefully packed by purchaser) within 7 days of receipt. We do not generally refund postal charges. Please notify us before sending a return.
