Originally published in 1839, the book was not well received by the English press who were a bit peeved that the Straits Settlements were dispatched in a few pages. Despite the title, the main part of the book is an account of the Malay States from a sympathetic point of view. Newbold travelled the peninsula widely which enabled him to cover history, politics, commerce, geology, linguistics, botany, anthropology and the law in some detail. 508 pages with indexes, maps & tables. Very Good Hardbacks in Good Dust Jackets Reprints Weight: 2 kg. Post free within Malaysia, but may incur additional charges when posted outside Malaysia The dust jackets are a little ragged at the edges . The half title pages and a rear end paper in each volume have shadows from the dust jacket. The binding is tight, the text is clear and there is very mild tanning throughout.
