Political and Statistical Account of the British Settlements In the Straits of Malacca - Vol 2

by TJ Newbold

Condition: Very Good/good

Kuala Lumpur: Oxford University Press, 1971. Reprint. Hardcover. Very Good/good. Originally published in 1839, the book was not well received by the English press who were a bit peeved that the Straits Settlements were dispatched in a few pages. Despite the title, the main part of the book is an account of the Malay States from a sympathetic point of view. Newbold travelled the peninsula widely which enabled him to cover history, politics, commerce, geology, linguistics, botany, anthropology and the law in some detail. Volume 2 only 508 pages with indexes, maps & tables. Weight 1kg. Post free within Malaysia The dust jacket is ragged at the edges . The half title page and a rear end paper have shadows from the dust jacket. The binding is tight, the text is clear and there is mild tanning throughout.
