London: Henry Sotheran and Co., 1877. One hundred chromolithographic plates with lavish colours. Original cloth binding has been carefully and professionally restored with the original spine and board cloth benefiting from being rebacked, original decorative front and plain rear cloth panels laid on new boards.Rear board has some deep scratches through the cloth. All edges gilt. Contents clean and tight, new endpapers, the first introductory text pages have some foxing to them, but this then reduces so that the plates are clean and plate descriptions are also clean. The plates are very superb, bright and fresh, the majority are unmarked. A very good copy of this lavish work.. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Sm Folio (28 x 39cm). Book.

Description:
London: Henry Sotheran and Co, 1877. Second English-language edition. [vi], 58 pp. with all 100 vivid chromolithographic plates present; plates XLVII (top and bottom edge trimmed) and XXVIII bound at front. Folio. Publisher's maroon cloth, recased with spine laid down, lettered in gilt and black, all edges gilt. Very Good+ with wear along edges, exposed tips, small corner chip to second blank. A few tiny stains to contents but no foxing, very bright internally. Recased binding is quite sturdy as well. A French examination of ornament throughout the ages with beautiful chromolithographed plates.
