About This Item

[Sandusky, Ohio: Published by the author; printed by the Franklin Printing & Engraving co., Toledo, 1916.] 16 pages. Original printed wraps. [26.5 cm.] Good plus. Short tear to front wrap affecting two letters of subtitle, short tear to base of spine, some soiling and creasing to wraps. Internally clean. FIRST EDITION. Scarce. The second and last "Pomeroy Pamphlet," the first having been issued the previous year. In 1912, Albert A. Pomeroy issued the first volume of his book, "The History and Genealogy of the Pomeroy Family." In Jan., 1914, an article appeared in "The New England Historical and Genealogical Register" ("Genealogical Research in England," by Elizabeth French, pp. 47-64), which undermined the pedigree of Eltweed Pomeroy that Albert Pomeroy put forth in his book. Furthermore, an editor at the "Register," J. Gardner Bartlett, appended a note to the article (pp. 55-56) which attacked Pomeroy's use of evidence in his book. The present pamphlet is a long and angry rebuttal to the the article in the "Register." It includes a letter from genealogist, Charles Arthur Hoppin, in support of Pomeroy's position. Laid-in is an advertisement (printed on both sides of a green sheet measuring 15.3 x 23.5 cm) for the second volume of "The History and Genealogy of the Pomeroy Family" (published in 1922 and containing the third and final part of the work).
