Red buckram binding with light marking and staining to boards, slight wear to ends of spine. Some foxing to page edges and text. Rear endpaper joint cracked and a lttle loose. Triple signed in black ink by Nancy Astor - to front pastedown endpaper (Astor, Cliveden); to recto of frontis (Nancy Astor); and to title page (Astor, Cliveden). There are numerous pencilled markings to text and some doodling (of hats) to leading and trailing blanks (presumably also by Astor). Nancy Astor was the wife of Waldorf Astor who, in 1919, was elected as a Member of Parliament and became the first woman to sit as an MP in the House of Commons, she remained in office until 1945.
