Philadelphia and New York: Bradford & Inskeep, 1813. Hardcover. Good + condition. American literary magazine, July through December 1813, with Hudson River & Catskill Mountains content including a lovely copper engraved plate, "Catskill Mountains and the Steam Boat on the Hudson River", by Glennie (p453). Also much content pertaining to the War of 1812: "Life of Commodore Bainbridge" (commander of the USS Constitution, known as Old Ironsides, the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel, still afloat, in Boston), with engraved portrait (pp 553 -578); copper engravings of Commodore John Barry & James Lawrence; naval songs (The Pillar of Glory by Edwin C. Holland, and "Charge the Can Cheerily". Also an article on the Pacific Fur Company expedition to the Pacific (pp 394 - 401). The Port Folio was a Philadelphia literary and political magazine, published 1801-1814 by Joseph Dennie, one of the leading scholars and authors of the Federalist period, who wrote under the name Oliver Oldschool. 8vo, 668 pp, numerous engraved illustrations, folding plates. Three quarter red leather and marbled boards. Boards a bit rubbed, spine chipped, front hinge cracked but holding; front end paper detached, faint damp staining to a few pages, folding music plates with tears but complete. OCLC: 6594597.
