About This Item
This is a luxury edition of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, the first novel by the Irish author James Joyce (1882-1941), first published in 1916. This classic novel, about the religious and intellectual awakening of Stephen Dedalus, made Joyce's reputation, although it did not endear him to his fellow Irishmen.
This copy was published by The Heritage Club in 1968. 254 pages, heavily illustrated, in black and white and in color.
It has a bookplate on the front endpaper, which can be covered over, or steamed off.
It comes in a box, which is marked in several places. There are little bits of dappling to the back of the cloth cover; the rest is as shown. Inside, it is perfect.
Joyce's A Portait of the Artist as a Young Man is a semi-autobiographical work. It tells of the intellectual, religious, and philosophical awakening of the main character, Stephen Dedalus as he rebels against the conventions in which he has been raised and leaves home to pursue his artistic ambition.
