Photographer's blind stamp lower right, ink stamp and docket on verso. 1 vols. 7-1/2 x 9-3/4 inches. Novelist Chester Himes (1909-1984) had recently moved back east to New York City from California. He worked in a variety of menial jobs and worked on The Third Generation (1954) "the most explicitly autobiographical of his novels" (ANB).
