Art-illustrated (artist not acknowledged) dustjacket price-clipped, fingernail-sized nips on head, dampstain splashes on spine, plus a darkened strip on head of rear panel. From the jacket flap: "This brialliant novel, from the pen of a master of his craft, is set mainly in the Mellahs (Ghettoes) of North Africa . . . Over a wide canvas the author describes tales of intrigue, love, character and customs in a little known but colourful corner of the world, with descriptions of life as it was and still is, in the Jewish quarters of the North African towns . . .
