A scarce six volume collection regarding agriculture in Scotland during the eighteenth century, with delightful gilt spines. ESTC Citation No. T103102.This work examines agriculture, relating to the management of resources, cultivation of crops and care of animals. Specifically, the author was commissioned to prepare surveys on a number of different farms across Scotland.It fell to the author, Andrew Wight, to inspect corn-farms on annexed estates, to inspect the different soils, to inquire into how the farmers operate, their grains, manures, the climate and seasons and how that impacts their work, labour costs, whether working with horses or oxen makes their work the most profitable, how they get their product to market, the best models of instruments of husbandry and finally to bear in mind green provender for the spring.Four volumes across six books, published between 1778 and 1784.Bound smartly in full leather, with charming gilt spines. A beautiful example of this scarce work. In a full calf binding. Externally generally smart, with a little rubbing to the spines, particularly of volume II. Boards have some slight wear and bumping to the extremities. Front pastedown has some wear from the removal of an ownership bookplate. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just the odd spot. Very Good Indeed
