Inner hinges are just beginning to crack. Previous owner's name on the first white page has been erased, leaving a shadow impression. Minor foxing to the paper. A very good copy of this book edited by B. Montagu Esq. Title on the spine reads: Bacon's Advancement of Learning by Montagu.

London: William Pickering, 1851. Full leather. Near fine. 4 x 6 1/2 in. xvi, 341 pp. Engraved frontis with 1841 in the border design. Full red morocco with gilt dentelles on the covers, stamped and gilt decorations on spine. The book has been expertly rebacked with matching straight-grained red morocco, probably in the latter part of the 19th c. Condition is NEAR FINE ; minor shelf wear, covers very clean, edges a touch rubbed. Leather supple with no weakness to the joints. Text clean and bright. A few pencil notes by an antiquarian bookseller on the endpapers. Phil./fine Bindings. RGR.
