This work tracks the social and economicalrelations ofEngland from the beginning of the nineteenth century. George Richardson Porter was a British statistician. He became head of the statistical department of the Board of Trade. Condition: In a full calf binding. Externally, smart with some patches of light rubbing to the joints, boards and spine. Rubbing is slightly heavier to the head and tail of spine. Binder's stamp to verso of front endpaper indicates a C Lewis binding. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot throughout. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED..

Signed by John X Merriman at Schoongezicht, S. Africa on the ffep. Hirst was the editor of The Economist and Merriman was a prominent political figure and the last Prime Minister of the Cape Colony before Union in 1910. Ex-university library with usual labels, stamps, pockets etc. University bookplate to front pastedown. Gilt titling to upper board. Boards rubbed. Corners sl. bumped. Spine rebacked with navy blue tape. Crack at half-title but not affecting binding. Contents undiscoloured and unmarked but sl. foxing to publisher's September 1911 catalogue at back. 735pp.
