About This Item

New York: The Heritage Press. Very Good+. 1964. Hardcover. A Heritage Press reprint edition of volume one of the famous "Forsyte Saga" trilogy by John Galsworthy (1867-1933). First published in 1906, "The Man of Property" begins the story of England's wealthy Forsyte family, starting with Old Jolyon and a large cast of other eccentric family members. This edition illustrated by Charles Mozley, with an introduction by Evelyn Waugh. Sandglass flyer not present. --- In full tan cloth-covered boards with drawn portrait of a Forsyte to cover in brown, titling in gilt on brown spine block, and brown topstain. Volume protected in brown paper-covered slipcase. --- An excellent copy: clean, tightly-bound and bright but with prior owner's bookplate affixed to front paste-down and with a strip of faint darkening to front cover. Slipcase also very nice, though with a bit of rubbing & fingerprints. (Due to the considerable weight of this item, extra shipping charges may be requested.); Small Quarto (9 to 11 in. tall); x, 285 pages .

The Forsyte Saga is a series of three novels and two interludes published between 1906 and 1921 by John Galsworthy. They chronicle the vicissitudes of the leading members of an upper-middle-class British family. Only a few generations removed from their farmer ancestors, the family members are keenly aware of their status as "new money".
