Germany.. No date. 1735- 1745.. Engraving with mezzotint, printed in color with additional handcolor, image size 12 1/2 x 8 inches on sheet 16 1/2 x 10 inches. Fine condition. Seven flowers of the genus Pyrola depicted, most in shades of pink and white. Plate No. 841 from Johann Wilhelm Weinmann " Phytanthoza Iconographia", printed on thick laid paper. Dunthorne (#327) notes that plates from this work represent "some of the earliest examples of color printing from a single plate", many of them printed by a combination of line engraving and mezzotint. .
