Full vellum binding, title lettered on spine in green, with two gilt Star of Venus. [46] 94, [2], 847, [257] pp. Engraved title-page, plus [13] leaves of plates, 7 of which are folding. Some small tears to lower margins of leaves and small chip to head of synopsis page [not affecting text], and some trimmed edges, two small tears to front pastedown, early ownership signature to head of title page and front pastedown, clipping to upper front page of front fly leaf, vellum somewhat soiled, with gilt decoration fading, corners slightly bumped, small damp stain on rear cover, otherwise a very good copy. Quintus Curtius Rufus was a 1st century Roman historian and scholar, whose Histories of Alexander Great gained popularity in the Middle Ages. The first printed edition was published in Venice between 1470-71 by Vindelinus Spirensis. Samuel Pitiscus (1637-1727) was a historian and classical scholar from the Netherlands.
