Boards loose but still attached well with 3 of the 5 cords. Marbled endpapers, page edges red though top edge darkened. Bookplate to fep & initial of PJF to bookplate. Name to top of title page. Engraved illustrated frontispiece and title-page vignette. Title-page printed in red and black. Includes biographical information. Overall a fair copy. In Latin Includes: Index in Q. Horatium Flaccum olim quidem collectus a Thoma Tretero, deinde omnibus editionibus accommodatus a Daniele Aveman, nunc vero, additis etiam v. cl. Richardi Bentleji variantibus lectionibus, pluribus quam mille & quingentis locis auctus & emendatus ab Isaaco Verburgio. Richard Bentley (January 1662 July 1742) an English classical scholar, critic, theologian. He was the first Englishman to be placed along side the great heroes of classical learning, known for his literary and textual criticism. Called the "founder of historical philology", and is credited with the creation of the English school of Hellenism.
