About This Item

Paris: Mouton, 1974. Hardcover. Near Fine in Very Good dust jacket. 24.5 x 16 cm. Octavo. 277pp 3 ads. Orange cloth in dust jacket. Some soiling to the jacket. Near and Middle East Monographs VI. The Qashq'i tribal confederacy of the province of Fars is one of the largest nomadic groups to be found in present-day Iran. Mostly Turkic in origin and speaking a Western Oghuz Turkic dialect, the Qashqa'is have played a lively and often turbulent part in the history of Persia. This history can be best understood if considered as an evolution affected by the constant interaction of two distinct factors, two groups of people, each with a particular evolution of its own: one the Persians who contributed to the symbiosis of the two groups their agricultural rural ways and their adherence to trade and commerce, the other the Turks of Persia who brought to it their ways in administration, in military arts, and their tribal-pastoral economy.
