John Slater (1900-1976) was a distinguished American physicist renowned for his significant contributions to the theory of the electronic structure of atoms, molecules, and solids. The book, along with "Mechanics" (1947) and "Electromagnetism" (1947), constituted a comprehensive treatment, at an intermediate level of difficulty, covering most contemporary theoretical physics topics, with the exception of nuclear theory.
