Paris - Ernest Flammarion, 1900 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. An account of Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen's second voyage aboard the Fram. In French. With many illustrations and maps. Fridtjof Nansen (10 October 1861 13 May 1930) was a Norwegian explorer, scientist, diplomat, humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. In his youth a champion skier and ice skater, he led the team that made the first crossing of the Greenland interior in 1888, and won international fame after reaching a record northern latitude of 8614' during his North Pole expedition of 189396. Although he retired from exploration after his return to Norway, his techniques of polar travel and his innovations in equipment and clothing influenced a generation of subsequent Arctic and Antarctic expeditions. Condition: In a half alligator-effect binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, sound with slight shelfwear. Internally, firmly bound, bright with light scattered foxing. Overall: VERY GOOD.

Translated into French. Charles Rabot translates and abridges Otto Sverdrup's account of his Arctic expeditions in the Canadian Arctic. Published in French with numerous illustrations. Having joined Fridtjof Nansen's 1888 expedition across Greenland, Sverdrup advised Nansen when the 'Fram' was built and was later given command of the ship while Nansen attempted to reach the North Pole. The present work is primarily an account of his winters on the Fram around Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic, where he continued to explore and map the area and discover islands to the west of Ellesmere Island, namely Axel Heiberg, Amund Ringnes and Ellef Ringnes, collectively known as the Sverdrup Islands.
