The binding is worn but generally sound. Some pale spotting to the binding; the spine is dulled. Text is toned. INSCRIBED on the second front flyleaf, "With Regards of the Author." There is a pencil signature of "G. W. Mordecai" at the top of the title page. George Washington Mordecai was a businessman, railroadman, and planter from Raleigh, North Carolina. A look at the medical and legal identifications of insanity by this southern doctor just after the Civil War. Charles Earl Johnson (1812-1876) was a doctor from North Carolina.
