OFFERING: The signed presentation for Richard Wollheim, the major 20th century English thinker on aesthetics and a longtime friend of the artist. Kitaj has carefully done the inscription and made a ruled underscore along its length and a second underscore under Wollheim. Additionally, he has underscored the first of the selected quotes, "I don't understand it; but its tone delights me" [Wittgenstein]. Richard Wollheim is credited with coining the term minimalism in a 1965 essay, "Minimal Art" and has written many influential works including "Art and Its Objects" (1968). CATALOG: The noteworthy catalog for Kitaj's second solo exhibition. Many of the works have achieved an iconic status. Along with David Hockney, Kitaj [1932-2007] helped to initiate the Pop Art Movement. The medium of inspiration is the reciprocal process of the power of images to shape ideas and the power of ideas to shape images. EDITION NOTE: The laid-in correction slip corrects the title page date and gives the correct February 1965 exhibition date. CONDITION: Good. Pages: clean, gutter with slight fingering, some pages with light bottom tip wear, two pages with slight top corner bend. / Wrappers: clean and bright; bowed at fore-edge with slight tip wear and crown and foot rubs. / Binding: Excellent. PAGINATION: Complete, pages unnumbered but 30 pages including the endpapers with their illustrated text + the laid-in correction slip with exhibition date; 70 works described, some in several parts, 49 illustrated, many in sepia, two full-page. The original commentary is by Kitaj and he has selected the quotations that he calls "prefaces to his art". FORMAT: Publisher's sewn pictorial wrappers, different works reproduced on each side and not duplicated in the illustrations for the catalog. SIZE: 228 x 210 mm. ADDITIONAL IMAGES: by request.

This item is an overweight, additional shipping applies.Fitted with an archive quality dust jacket protectorMinor wear to dust jacket. Minor scuffing, has a small mark (glue) on rear of cloth cover. A very fine copy. Fitted with a custom dust jacket protector. The dazzling ceramics of Clarice Cliff and of the Wilkinson Pottery that first encouraged her work in the 1920s are among the best of many fine achievements of the renowned Staffordshire Potteries in the English Midlands. Today they have become one of the great collectables from the twentieth century. The exuberant colours and bold shapes of her classic Art Deco pieces have caught the imagination of collectors and auction houses the world over as prices move inexorably upwards. After years of research both in the Wilkinson archives and through oral testimonies of surviving employees, Greg Slater has produced the ultimate survey of Clarice Cliff's work and those of her largely uncredited colleagues from the 1920s to the 1950s. "Honest and reliable service - every book hand-packaged with care."
This definitive look at the British blues explosion centers around three guitarists: Peter Green, Mick Taylor, and especially Eric Clapton. Describing the groups they played in from 1965 to 1970, including Johns Mayalls Bluesbreakers, Cream, Fleetwood Mac, Blind Faith, and The Rolling Stones, the book is presented in an engaging day-by-day format. With a wealth of illustrations and never-before-published details, the book reveals the way the musicians behind the blues boom worked together, influenced each other, and pushed one another to ever greater achievements.

Description:
This is a very lovely small book of poetry by Dante Gabriel Rossetti with illustrations by Paul Woodroffe. It was published by David McKay, Philadelphia, and dates to circa 1916. The illustrations are in the Arts & Crafts or Art Nouveau style. The page edges are gilt, as shown, and there is a pink ribbon bookmark sewn in. The interiors are in good, clean condition; the only condition… Read More
