Bound in decorated grey cloth boards. Boards have shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. This book is a collection of eight of Randolph Caldecott's picture books which were originally published by Routledge in the early 1880's. They are The Milkmaid, Hey Diddle Diddle and Baby Bunting, The Fox Jumps over the Parson's Gate, A Frog He Would A Wooing Go, Come Lasses and Lads, Ride a Cock Horse to Banbury Cross and A Farmer went Trotting upon his Grey Mare, Mrs Mary Blaize and The Great Panjandrum Himself. Randolph Caldecott (22 March 1846 12 February 1886) was a British artist and illustrator, born in Chester. The Caldecott Medal was named in his honour. He exercised his art chiefly in book illustrations. His abilities as an artist were promptly and generously recognised by the Royal Academy. Caldecott greatly influenced illustration of children's books during the nineteenth century. Two books illustrated by him, priced at a shilling each, were published every Christmas for eight years.
