Volumes 7 and 9 of this set have to words 'Accounts Department' to the had of each spine. A fascinating and large collection of sports writing from across the 19th and 20th century. The named authors of these works are Edward Weatherby, James Weatherby and Charles Weatherby. Weatherbys is a notable English company that became an authority in the field of Horseracing. Condition: With six volumes in a full calf binding, and three volumes in a half calf binding with marbled paper covered boards. Externally heavily rubbed across each volume, heaviest to volume 6 to 8. Rubbing has resulted in loss to the head and tail of the spine. Numerous surface cracks to the spine. Loss to the spine labels of volume 5 to 9. Spine label is starting to lift to volume 7. Singe marks to the front and rear boards of volume I. 'Jockey Club' is gilt to the front board of volume 6, and 'Accounts Department' to the head of spines 7 and 9. Cracks to the front and rear hinges of each volume. The front hinge of volume 3 has failed, with the front board detached, with the front board very heavily rubbed. Offsetting to the front and rear pastedown and endpapers. Tape repairs to the front and rear joints of volume 6. 7, 8, and 9. Internally generally firmly bound. Binding is strained to the reverse of the front endpaper of volume 5. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd mark. Overall Condition: Good Only.
