London: George Allen & Unwin, Ltd., [1923]. 8vo. 217, [1] pp., plus 6 pp. publ. ads. Photo frntsp., numerous photo illusts., maps. Blue ribbd cloth, gilt lettrng on frnt cvr & spine (slght bmpng to crnrs, occasional light foxng), still a VG- copy, w/ frmr ownrshp signature on ffep. First edition, 1st printing, of this scarce classic of sailing literature about the noted author’s adventure of building a sailing yacht in Riga, Latvia from 1921-1922, and then sailing from Riga, across the Baltic Sea through Estonian waters to Helsingfors, Finland and back. Ransome (1884-1967), was also known for his fine work on Russian fairy tales, as well as his Swallows and Amazons series of children’s adventure books set on the Norfolk Broads in England.
