Railway Station, Redfern, Sydney. Albumen photograph

1880. Very good condition. Large albumen elevated view of the railway station, with a steam tram approaching in the foreground, more than 26 hackney cabs lined up awaiting passengers, a steam tram already pulled p at the front of the station, and the train waiting on the tracks at the right. Beyond the railway station lies the Intercolonial Exhibition Hall, which was built in 1870 & opened by Governor Bellmore. Henry King (1855?-1923) was a successful New South Wales photographer with studios in George Street, known for his Aboriginal portraits, popular scenic views, and Sydney street scenes. He made his living doing portraiture, but is best known for the high quality of his outdoor and city views. Titled in the print, 323. Redfern Railway Station, Sydney H. King, and with embossed stamp at the lower right corner. 8 1/8 x 6". Not found in Trove.
