About This Item

London: The Dropmore Press. Very Good+ in Good+ dust jacket. 1951. 1st and Limited Edition of 300 copies only. Hardcover. This edition, printed on cream wove hand made paper and bound in full green buckram in the London Craft Bindery of W. H. Smith & Son, is limited to 300 copies. This copy is number 204 of an edition of 300 copies only. The dustwrapper (now protected now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks Near Very Good) is NOT price-clipped, but is very lightly edge-chipped with a 'sunned' spine and edge browned, but overall 99% complete, clear and bright. First Edition, First printing - the Original manuscript having been "preserved by Snagg's descendants". This copy shows signs of a label/? Bookplate having been removed from the front pastedown and a couple of 'invisible' blind stamps, but NO Inscriptions or marks, and in Very Good, Clean, Tight condition. Some Eighteenth Century Theatrical Memoirs by Thomas Snagg with an Introduction by Harold Hobson and Wood Engravings by Kenneth Hunter. Thomas Snagge was born in 1746, a member of an old and prosperous family. Early in youth he departed from the family traditions becoming an actor, possessed of 'an infatuation with the stage'. He played with Garrick at Drury Lane and later with great success in Dublin. This narrative of his experiences thows light on the theatre of his time, and on the personality of the writer. Overall An Excellent copy. See Images; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall, .
