About This Item
Canadian Historical Review, 1939. This is a 1939 reprint of an article by the famous artist Jefferys about his involvement with solving certain problems in the reconstruction of the Port Royal, Novs Scotia, Habitation. He points out that these historical buildings were "the first structures erected north of the Spanish settlements that transplanted European building traditions in the new world." This copy belonged to Harriette Taber Richardson who was responsible for raising the funds to perform the reconstruction. Enclosed with the booklet is a memorandum to [Ira Rich] Kent regarding a possible children's book to be written by his wife, Louise Andrews Kent. Also enclosed is a 2 page progress report on the work being done in 1940. Finally there is an original 1939 letter to Mrs. Richardson from the French Consul saying that the French government is on board with the reconstruction. There is also a post card of the buildings. All are in Very Good condition and all are quite rare.. Reprint. Soft Cover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
