About This Item
Marseille: Larens Bremand, 1730. Second. Oblong 4to 8 x 10 3/4 inches Beautiful title page with 37 fine engraved maps. Brown marbled paper wrappers, stains and scuffs to margins, corners bumped, all maps with margin stains and toned.

Rare maritime atlas of the Mediterranean with striking charts of ports and plans from France, Italy, and Spain. All charts were engraved, black and white and widely relied upon by coastal navigators. Michelot was not a cabinet geographer, but rather had first hand experience at sea. The charts were produced in Marseilles, which was the headquarters of Louis XIV's Corp des Galeres, a fleet of oar and sail powered ships.
