New York: D. Appleton and Co., 1895. First Edition, First Issue with correct issue points and ads. Octavo, original cloth and decorative dustjacket. Considered a classic of Civil War literature, exceptionally scarce in dustjacket. Very Good, cloth with general darkening and sporadic surface erosion to cloth which is common for this title, contemporary gift inscription (from a Pennsylvania man to his Tennessee friend) in Very Good original 19th Century dustjacket, with some chipping at top spine end, expected wear and soiling, light stain at top rear panel.
Synopsis
The Red Badge of Courage is an 1895 war novel by American author Stephen Crane. It is considered one of the most influential works in American literature. The novel, a depiction on the cruelty of the American Civil War, features a young recruit who overcomes initial fears to become a hero on the battlefield. The book made Crane an international success.
