Full leather with 22K gilt decoration, all edges gilt, silk moiré end papers and silk ribbon marker. "Crane was a painter with words, using images like colors on a canvas H.G. Descombes was commissioned, "The result is a series of bold, stark, black-and-white drawings that evoke the feeling of having been sketched on the field of battle." Editors notes. Editor's Notes are very lightly soiled and the edges are toned. Rare in original publisher issued condition, unread, in the original box. The box is lightly edge toned the original gold seal is complete with one edge folded in, residue on the box flap. Synopsis

The Red Badge of Courage is an 1895 war novel by American author Stephen Crane. It is considered one of the most influential works in American literature. The novel, a depiction on the cruelty of the American Civil War, features a young recruit who overcomes initial fears to become a hero on the battlefield. The book made Crane an international success.
