London, printed by John Streater, for Giles Calvert at the Black-Spread-Eagle at the west end of Pauls, 1655.. For the feeding of silk-worms in the woods, on the mulberry-tree-leaves in Virginia: who after fourty dayes time, present their most rich golden-coloured silken fleece, to the instant wonderful enriching of all the planters there, requiring from them neither cost, labour, or hindrance in any of their other emploments [sic] whatsoever. And also to the good hopes, that the Indians, seeing and finding that there is neither art, skill, or pains in the thing: they will readily set upon it, being by the benefit thereof inabled to buy of the English (in way of truck for their silk-bottoms) all those things that they most desire. FIRST EDTION 1655. THIS IS NOT THE REPRINT OF 1840, WHICH HAS ON THE VERSO SIDE OF TITLE PAGE "FORCE'S COLLECTION OF HISTORICAL TRACTS". Slim 8vo, approximately 180 x 130 mm, 7 x 5¼ inches, pages: [4], 1-40, LACKING SIGNATURE B (PAGES 5-12) REPLACED WITH PRINTED PAGES FROM THE REPRINT BY FORCE'S HISTORICAL TRACTS, circa 1840, the original pages are: Title page, To the Reader, 1-4, and 13-40, the replaced 8 pages are whiter than the original, slight duplication of the text on the first and last replaced pages (marked in pencil to indicate where the text follows on), bound in full pale calf, gilt lettering and rules to spine, triple gilt rules to edges of covers, gilt inner dentelles (turn overs), edges gilt. Slight rubbing to spine and corners, covers slightly marked, covers slightly sprung, last page dusty and with shallow creasing, first replaced page a little crinkled as it is laid down and is blank on verso (see attached images), pages age-browned, there are no running titles or page numbers on the replaced pages, a good tight copy, 8 pages replaced from a 19th century reprint as mentioned..
