In Verona, Per A. Scolari. 1749-1750. Hard Cover. The first three volumes of what was eventually an eight-volume set. Vol I: 4 p.l., 388 p.; Vol II: [6], 395-838, [2] p.; Vol. III: 325, [326-327] pages; illustrations; quarto; 27 cm. These historical notices of the churches of Verona are concerned with their architectural history and the paintings and other artwork contained in each. Biancolini published his most significant documents in these early volumes. He continued to add to this foundation and published volumes through the eighth, which appeared in 1771. Schlosser-Magnino (p. 567) calls for 7 volumes, but the most complete set we could find, the one in the Avery Collection at Columbia, has eight in nine volumes. This is a foundation source for the study of architecture in Verona. Very good, untrimmed copy in contemporary cardboard. Stock#OB120.

First edition, limited to just 100 numbered copies, signed by both Casson and Betjeman on the first leaf (this being #9). Designed by Nigel Paige and produced and printed at the Royal College of Art, London. 4to. Unpaginated. Card wrappers with a wire spiral binding at the upper edge (and thereby resembling an artist's sketchbook). Twenty-five watercolour sketches, originally commissioned by 'The Illustrated London News', with drawing captions and both Betjeman's two-page introduction and Casson's brief preface reproduced in facsimile of the author's holograph. The lower edges lightly spotted, encroaching just a fraction to occasional leaf margins, and with just a hint of very faint soiling to the upper wrapper. Very good indeed. Very good- set of 51 Roman landscape plates in the original paper wraps.In the early 19th century, Italian publishers rushed to bring out collections of views of Rome for the tourist market.Engraved title page with vignette of the Capitoline Wolf and different title, Raccolta delle Principali Veduti di Roma e suoi Contorni, 50 copperplate engravings of ancient Roman ruins and modern scenes drawn by famous artists and engraved on copper by Alessandro Moschetti.Views include the Trevi Fountain, Saint Peter's Square, Spanish Steps, the Vatican, exterior and interior of the Pantheon and the Colosseum, plazas, temples, triumphal arches, cathedrals, etc.Alessandro Moschetti (or Mochetti) was active in Rome from 1843-1864 and engraved many books of Roman views.Oblong quarto, original green printed wraps with some loss on spine, covers grubby, good impressions of the copperplates, a few with light foxing within the plate.
