First American edition (so stated). Octavo. Original light blue cloth over gray boards stamped in silver. Dust jacket designed by Chip Kidd (unclipped). Fine. 245 pages. No other signatures or bookplates. Signed and inscribed by Kazuo Ishiguro to Glenn Goldman on the title page: "To Glenn and Andrea - Kazuo Ishiguro - Much thanks for having me here, L.A. 26 Sept. 1990.' Provenance: from the collection of Glenn Goldman. Goldman was the founder of the Los Angeles based bookstore "Book Soup".
Synopsis
The Remains of the Day is the third published novel by Japanese-British author Kazuo Ishiguro. The Remains of The Day is one of the most highly-regarded post-war British novels. It won the Booker Prize in 1989 for Best Fiction, and was later adapted into an Academy-Award nominated film, starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. The novel ranks in the Sunday Times list of 100 greatest novels.
