Senate issue. 693 pp, with 22 engraved plates, the large folding map (bound in), two single-page maps, and one of two small folding maps. The second small folding map (untitled map showing the crossing of the Sierra Nevada by the South Fork of the American River) is supplied in photo-facsimile. Some of the plates are trimmed quite close to the margins. In a later nineteenth century binding of three-quarter navy blue leather over patterened paper-covered boards. Fremont's most important work, chronicling his seminal expeditions that revealed the paths and trails that would become the highways over which the gold seekers would rush to California beginning in 1849. Wheat (Transmississippi Vol. II, pp 194-200, map 497) comments that the large map "radically and permanently changed the entire picture of the West and its cartography." Washington: Blair and Rives, 1845. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Unusually nice copy of the House of Representatives version of the Fremont report. 1845 first printing. Blind stamped cloth with gilt lettered spine.Fold out map and large Preuss map in rear pocket both in very good condition. Very good condition with only a small tear to top of spine. Important report which had a far reaching impact on later emigration to the west. Co-authored by his wife Jesse, Fremont's account was one of the most popular and influential of its kind. By providing the first accurate information on the geographical routes through the Rocky Mountains to California and paved the way for the gold rush influx. Wagner-Camp 115, Howes F-370. Very near fine in its original black, ribbed cloth covered boards with bold gilt text on the spine and blind embossing on the front and rear boards. A small quarto of 9 by 5 3/4 inches with a prior owner's book plate on the first free end page and very light rubbing to the cloth at the head and heel of the spine and with foxing to the first 20 pages of the text and the final 14 pages of the text. Without a dust jacket and probably as issued. 693 pages of text (with 17 unopened leaves). This volume includes the first report: An Exploration Of The Country Lying Between The Missouri River And The Rocky Mountains In The Line Of The Kansas And Great PLatte Rivers.(comprising pages 9 to 101).
