Pale green paper cover with black titling and border, staple binding, black and white frontispiece, report illustrated with black and white photographs. 31 pages. Cover browned around edges, half inch open tear at bottom back corner, spine cover partially split, staples rusted affecting adjacent paper, hinge split at frontispiece/title page, remainder of binding tight. Ottawa: Government Printing Office, 1906. First edition. Hardcover. Fair. 8vo. [2], vii-xvii, [1], 1-355, [1] pp. Green cloth with gilt lettering and a gilt decoration on the front board, gilt lettering on the spine. Illustrated with a frontispiece, several plates and in-text illustrations, a chart, and with a folding map in the rear pocket of the volume. Both hinges cracked and the binding shaken, lacks the endpapers and the half-title page. The first several leaves have a dampspot on their bottom margin.

Holland p448. The narrative, with supplemental information from previous reports, of an expedition sent by the Canadian government to assert Canadian sovereignty over Hudson Bay and the Arctic islands and to establish police and customs stations. Low sailed up to Cape Herschel on Ellesmere Island, which he mapped and claimed for Canada. "He made many important surveys. Sent on an Arctic patrol in 1903, he wrote the well-constructed narrative Cruise of the Neptune." Story.

Mounted to declare Canada's authority over the Arctic, the expedition was led by Albert Peter Low (1861-1942), a geologist with experience in the north, with a compliment of 43 including a detachment of North-West Mounted Police and several other scientists. Octavo: xvii, 355 p. with a frontispiece, 62 illustrations, and a color folding map (rear pocket). Original brown cloth binding, with gilt stamping. Period previous owner's ink signature to the front flyleaf. The upper seam of the rear pocket is split. Minor bumping to the corners and tips; otherwise very good.
