New York: Knopf, 1953. VG. First edition. Paperback. This copy was the property of the American film producer Wilbur Stark (1912-1995). It is a photocopy/mimeographed copy of the first edition and is bound in blue wrappers, with a label on the front cover 'Reputation For A Song/Property of:/Picture Productions/25 West 54th Street/New York 10019/NY, USA'. Stark produced the film version of the book, with the title 'My Lover, My Son' which was released in 1970 starring Romy Schneider and Dennis Waterman. On the front endpaper a 17-line typed sheet is affixed outlining the plot, the first four lines read, 'Reputation For A Song will succeed as a film/because of the opportunity it presents to bring/the story of a contemporary Oedipus relationship/to the screen'. At the bottom of this sheet is typed, 'Property of:/WILBUR STARK,/Picture Productions,/25 West 54th Street,/New York 10019,/N.Y., U.S.A.'. ALSO included is the first page of typed letter to Stark which begins, 'Dear Wilbur,/Just a note to confirm our mutually agreed/approach to the treatment for a screenplay of/"Reputation for a Song.". WITH a two page typed document detailing of the plot, with pencil annotations, which begins 'REPUTATION FOR A SONG brings to the screen for/the first time the classical Oedipus tragedy,/updated to 1968 against a background of swinging/London town.' Sunning to spine; else a very good copy of a RARE item of cinematography history. . First Edition. Paperback. Very Good.
