Edmonton: Denoyer Geppert, 1967. Roller map. Includes hanging bracket. Measures 54" x 52.5".

The detailed information provided on this map of Western Canada is as rich as the country's ample natural reserves, which form one focal point of many within this fascinating and vibrant depiction of the region. It covers the region from the West coast to the western border of Ontario, including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territory. Along the coast, the Canadian Rockies color the map in a rich brown, while the eastern part of the map is colored with yellow, indicating the so-called "Canadian Shield" of Precambrian rock. Bright red text extensively identifies the locations of mineral resources such as gold, salt, and silver lead; animal populations such as grizzly bear, salmon, and cod; and energy resources such as water power, gas, and coal. In addition, red lines trace gas and oil pipelines as they run amongst railways, highways, and in particular the Alaska Highway, which had been recently constructed in the 1940s. Other information includes settled areas of prairies and parkland (marked with black texture); provincial and federal parks (outlined in green); and regular air transportation routes (in blue). Originally printed in 1954, this edition was revised in 1967.

The map is in good condition.

The Edmonton-based Mundy Map Company helped disseminate cartographic and geological knowledge of Canada through its maps and atlases. This map is an unparalleled resource in itself and a great example of their work.
