(All the previously described species and subspecies of the large Barbus (the species usually described as possessing parallel striae on their scales) from east and central Africa are examined. The area covered is bounded in the north by the mouth of the Nile and in the south by the Zambezi system. The western boundary is the upper reaches of the Congo system adjacent to the rift valley and the eastern boundary is the coast. Bull. Br. Mus. nat. Hist. (Zool), Vol. 26, No. 1). .
