Large square 4to (11x11 3/4"), cloth backed pictorial boards, tips and edges lightly rubbed else Fine. 1st edition of this magnificent book, illustrated by Smith with 6 large color plates, orange and black pictorial borders on each page of text, plus small color illustration on the dedication page and pictorial covers (front and back). Mounted on the front endpaper is a charming 2 page typed poem signed by William Lloyd Garrison, Jr., dedicating the book and the poem to the recipient Garrison Hadley. Garrison, Jr. was the son of famous abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison, Sr. Junior was a prominent advocate of woman's suffrage and other causes. This is a great copy of a beautiful picture book.

New York: Duffield & Company, 1909. Hardcover. Good-. Six full-page color plates plus a two-color border on each page with text, also a sweet drawing on the dedication page. Interior pages are clean and unmarked. The final page (32) has a diagonal crease and a 4" tear. Taped inside the front cover is a typewritten note from the original seller to the owner explaining the lateness of delivery. There is also a small railroad freight sticker inside the front cover. The front and back boards are badly scuffed and the corners and spine ends worn.
