Riders of The Purple Sage by Zane Grey - 1912

1852 softcover pamphlet discussing the downside of tobacco. When I got this the cover was off. Volume has had some restoration: cover is backed with matching paper and is reattached. Paper and binding are fragile but overall readable with a gentle touch. Primary defect is the corner off the front page. Interior has foxing and stains but no vandalism. I think the author comes out of the same group that published Solomon Spittle (which I also have listed). 1852 is the first year this was published but this is titled "Fourth Thousand" so this is an early printing. Has 8 plates that are included in pagination. 179 pages, complete as issued. An uncommon item generally found in poor condition. This is decent not great (which sometimes is the best you can do). Topic is health problems of tobacco. Discusses addiction, acute toxicity, chronic health problems including heart and lung disease as well as problems of second hand smoke. Feel free to inquire. The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. This is the English translation done by Edward Fitzgerald. Omar Khayyam was considered "the Astronomer-Poet of Persia". He was alive from 1048-1131, so the original works of poetry in this book before their translation were written during that time. The binding is a bit loose, there are two names inscribed on the first page, and there is a water stain on the bottom of some of the pages. The outside cover has reasonable wear for its age. Normal wear and tear for a book of this age. Binding is still tight and secure, front cover is coming a bit loose. The Debutante Register: 1945. This is a rare book. A large register of women who made their "debut" into society between 1943-1945. Some skipped their Debutante Ball due to the war. There is a photograph of each woman, and underneath is their name, who their parents are, where and when they held their debut, and a couple sentences about their education or their family history. Included amongst the women in this book is SHIRLEY TEMPLE! Her debut lists "cancelled due to the war." There are multiple signatures on the forward page, and I'm not sure if this book is signed or if the signatures were printed on from the originals. Boards show moderate patina, wear especially to edges and corners. Prior owner's stamp on front blank, moderate foxing to title page and last few pages of ads, occasional smudge, no tears or folds. Hinges and gutters starting but should hold with proper handling. Paginates: blanks, 384, 24, blanks plus 12 unpaginated plates. All edges gilt. Please see images of the book you will receive.
