(11 X 7.9 inches). 134pp. Illustrated with engraved frontis and several smaller wood engraved illustrations throughout the text, plus 16 albumen photographic prints of Locomotives, each mounted onto a card page with the technical details for that engine printed on the pages following each image. All pages with a printed red ruled border. Original brown pebble grained cloth on bevelled edges boards with gilt lettering to the front cover and spine. Blind stamped rule and decorative corner borders on both boards. Original dark brown coated endpapers. A crease to the front free endpaper and one page bumped to the outer corner of one mount page, not affecting the image, otherwise a better than very good example of this uncommon catalogue. The covers are bright and clean. Contains a history of the firm up to 1871

Publishers bright red cloth binding with elaborate blind tooled decorative borders to both boards. Front board lettered in gilt. pale blue coated endpapers. Small stain to the bottom of the page on the first 8 leaves and a few minor smudges throughout. Pages mounted onto tabs to allow the book to open flat. Some of these tabs have tears to the bottom two or three inches but all are holding firm and the book is intact throughout.
Overall a very good copy of this scarce edition, far superior to later editions in printing and format. Certainly one of Dore's crowning achievements, The Ancient Mariner was not a success at first. Dore published this work himself in 1875, paying £3,500 for the engraving and printing of the plates. He considered it to be one of his best and most original works and it was well received by critics but sales were poor. It is very likely that the sheets used for this edition are those unsold ones produced for the 1875 edition. A very good copy of a remarkable book.

Very good condition throughout with some very minor rubbing and toning to the edges but still all clean and sound. The set has been very well looked after. Started by Vale with $100 from Lawrence Ferlinghetti and the same amount from Allen Ginsberg, Search & Destroy was a hugely influential recorder of the early Punk scene in America, while also reporting on and interviewing the bands making a name for themselves on the British scene, including Iggy Pop, Blondie, Dead Kennedys, X, Devo, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned, Sham 69, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Buzzcocks and an article on Vivienne Westwood. Complete sets of the original publications are uncommon.

The text and illustrations are fine, clean and bright throughout and look unread. Publishers decorative green cloth which has dark blue illustration to the front board and spine. Gilt lettering to the spine. Decorative light blue and white floral endpapers with ship and swan designs. Longmans, Green & Co. London. 1907. FIRST EDITION. First printing. Large 8vo. (8.5 x 6.4 inches). Colour frontis, 22 full page mono plates and hundreds of small engraved vignettes to the margins of the text pages, all by E. Caldwell. This is the scarce first issue with the margin drawings of a dung beetle pushing his load with his front legs rather than his back on pages 65, 337 and 457. These were changed in later issues. Some feint offsetting to the blank endpapers and a few pages with some minor spotting but generally a very bright and clean copy throughout. Publishers original dark green cloth with gilt illustrations and lettering to the front board and the spine. The board edges are lightly rubbed and the gilt just a little dulled but overall a very good copy of this scarce first edition.

Chicago: P. F. Volland & Co, 1912. Hardcover. Twentyfourmo [16 cm] Illustrated paper covered boards with a string binding. Very good. The covers are lightly rubbed and soiled. There are a couple of barely perceptible stains on the rear board. The spine ends are gently bumped, and there are a couple of small indentations in the top edges of the covers. The spine is very subtly rolled. There is a contemporary gift inscription on the front free endsheet. The rear endsheet has several small light stains. "His cunning head bent and his little nose went Right down, while his tongue flashed red- When, O, what a sight! The fish in their fright Splashed water all over his head.
