"This biography of Jack Sheppard is based mainly on contemporary pamphlets, newspapers, and trial reports in the British Museum, the Bodleian Library, and the Inner Temple Library. It is intended as a work of entertainment rather than of scholarship; but for those who may be interested I have added a list of books of which i have made use in filling in the background to Sheppard's strange story. Of recent writers I am particularly indebted to Dr. M. Dorothy George, Mr. Peter Quennell, Mr. Patrick Pringle, and Dr. Leon Radzinowicz...." - Note from The Road To Tyburn: The Story of Jack Sheppard And The Eighteenth-Century London Underworld
