Cracking to gutters of a few pages with exposed binding. Occasional thumb-marking present. Cracking to hinges with exposed binding, causing boards and some pages to be slightly loose. Some light creasing to pages. Binding is slightly shaky. Previous owner's inscription to front free endpaper. Boards have moderate edge wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Crushing to spine ends with small splits and fraying to cloth. Moderate tanning to spine and edges.

The Blackfriars Publishing Co., 1111. Hardcover. Good. 680 pages. No dust jacket. Green cloth with a green leather spine. Pages are clean and bright with a firm binding. Endpapers and page edges are lightly tanned and foxed. Boards are a little rub worn with slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped and spine ends are a mildly crushed, with small splits and chips. Surface tears to leather. Tanning to spine and edges. Splitting to spine joints and ends.

G-VG/No Jacket (none issued). 10 cms x 15 .5 Cms. f/piece (Bridges photo)+xxiii+680+xxi; slight upper gutter opening after f/piece otherwise internally clean, tight & unmarked bar a faint sig. to front endpaper, covers generally clean and hardly worn, hint of fading to spine. One of the scarcer volumes in this extensive series and clearly revised since 1891 as e.g. Binyon's entry includes several from mid 1890s (see Miles's note verso t.p.).
