He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. He was admired and encouraged by Thomas Mann among others. Musil died in 1942. His books had been banned by the Nazis and when Austria was absorbed by the Third Reich, he and his wife fled to Switzerland. Musil's last (and unfinished) novel, 'The Man Without Qualities' is his most known book. His work holds a key place in modernist literature. This is perhaps the only critical biography of Musil. There is a protective mylar cover. 1ST EDITION.
