Roberts Birds of South Africa

by McLachlan, G.R. and R. Liversidge

Condition: Very Good/Fair

John Voelcker Bird Book Fund; Cape and Transvaal Printers. Cape Town. 1971. Third Edition; Second Impression stated. xxxii, 643 pages. Hardcover. The red covers are in very good plus condition, only very minor bumping on top and bottom of spine and corners. The title, author, and publisher are in gold on front cover and spine. There is one small white spot on the back cover. The dust jacket protected the book well, but the jacket is only in fair condition now. It is moderately frayed around the edges with some small tears. It is quite soiled and discolored in spots but all writing and drawings on it can be seen. The original price in South Africa (R6.75) is on inside front flap. Jacket is now protected in a clear, archival removable cover. The binding is solid. The interior of this book is in very good plus condition. The pages are clean and bright, the only writing detected is a previous owners name on the inside of the rear cover. A few of the first pages are creased. The book includes 56 color plates by Norman Lighton and 8 b/w plates by J. Perry and K. Hooper. The plates contain numerous bird illustrations and are generally in very good condition.
