Gothic mystery combined with the world of bare-knuckled boxing, by the creator of Sherlock Holmes and Professor Challenger. This volume is finely bound in scarlet polished calf full-leather by the bookbinder Riviere. Signed Binding. Has gilt design along all edges, front and back, and a fine gilt double-rule around the covers, also front and back. Front board has a 7/8" gilt round symbol in the center. Spine has elaborate gilt decorations and two spine labels. Marbled endpapers with elaborate gilt dentelles. Only the slightest of war along top of spine and at tips. The book as shown from a spine view is almost immaculate. Book is bound in matching binding to The Tragedy of the Korosko and The Green Flag and Other Tales of War and Sport and The Refugees, by the same author, which we also have for sale. Size: 8 1/2" x 5 7/8". 410 pages. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. No foxing in this copy. Top edge gilt in good condition. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.

Her husband Joseph Morrell Dodge had a long and distinguished career and tried to help reform Europe but later wound up as financial advisor to Douglas MacArthur in the economic revitalization of Japan. This edition is in very good condition internally. Photos of Ikebana arrangements by the famous Japan Ikebana master. A gift given to Julia Jeffers Dodge and placed in her library. 38 single sided (double page but other side blank) on high quality Japan paper with photo examples of Ikebana, black and white. A rare publication.
