Novel, by the French novelist and dramatist, which has been the basis for several films with the title 'Story of a Poor Young Man'. Text in French. 352pp. Attractively bound with dark red leather spine and corners over marbled boards, gilt ruled. Five raised bands to spine with gilt design to each segment and gilt title. All edges bright gilt and marbled endpapers. May not have been read as binding very tight. Minor marking to corner of top board and some tiny chips to corner of bottom board, otherwise near fine copy with no inscriptions..
